Memory Flowers is a beautiful children's picture book that centres around a young family comprising of Mum, Dad, Rory, Lauren and their pet dog, Charlie. Unfortunately, Charlie has died and the family now must deal with the loss of their much-loved pet.
As their dad prepares to bury Charlie, in a box they all decorated, they pick flowers from their garden, ready to place on Charlie’s grave. Each takes a turn placing the flowers on the grave, while remembering three special memories of him. This allows them to laugh a little and remember what happy times they had together.
Afterwards, they decide to go for a drive to Charlie’s favourite beach, along the way they drive past a cemetery. Rory asks his dad what the flowers on the hill are for.
And so they learn: ‘Memory Flowers’ can be for people too.
The aim of this story is to keep alive the memory of those who have passed to make the burden of grief a little easier to bear, particularly for children. We hope to help children who have suffered loss or provide a medium for parents to discuss the subject of death, in a reasonably non-confronting way.
